The Sleepy Family: TEAM & MEMBERS

FOUNDER, CO-DIRECTOR

SARA COHEN, PCD, CECE 


Sara has spent a lifetime around home births and childcare.  She is a birth and postpartum doula.  Additionally, Sara is a certified Early Childhood Educator who completed a field study in Nepal on Marriage and Family in the Hindu Society. This background, along with her own experience as a co-sleeping mother and postpartum night doula, has left Sara with a well rounded look at the many approaches to sleep.  Sara teaches a parent education class on "Family Sleep" at San Francisco's, Natural Resources, and Oakland's Tulip Grove in the fall.  She started an online community called SleepSF to support her colleagues working with parents on sleep issues.  Sara offers consultations on family and child sleep, parental coping techniques, early childhood development, toddler/preschool/school age positive reinforcement techniques, as well as, birth and postpartum care including meal delivery and night doula support. CO-DIRECTOR, COUNSELOR

TARA GEER LEIKER M.A., EdS 


Tara has over 10 years of experience working in the mental health and wellness fields. She has a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology: Community/Agency and an Educational Specialist Degree specializing in the areas of families, adolescents, and trauma. Additionally, Tara has a Personnel Pupil Services Certification in K-12 School Counseling. She has created and taught a university Stress Management course, which incorporated many wellness issues including sleep issues. Since then, Tara has provided consultations and workshop trainings on Stress and Wellness issues and has provided a wide range of services to thousands of clients including individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children of all ages. Tara specializes in working with difficult children, behavioral problems, stress prevention management and children with disabilities.  Tara offers consultation services on parenting issues, behavioral issues, stress prevention and management, issues related to difficult children, and whole family consultations.

COUPLES THERAPIST

ROBERT SOLLEY PH.D


Robert Solley is a couples therapist and neuropsychologist working out of the Getzwell Pediatrics office.  Dr. Solley specializes in working with new parents and offers premarital counseling.  In addition he supports a wide range of couples and does neuropsychological testing with kids from age 6 up through adults. LACTATION CONSULTANT

KATIE BOWMAN, MAS, PCD (DONA)


Katie Bowman, is a private lactation consultant practicing both at the Tulip Grove in Oakland as well as home visits all around the Bay Area.  In addition, she is a certified Postpartum Doula specializing in maternal health and nutrition, multiples and single parenting.

SF NIGHT DOULA

NOREEN McCARTHY, PCD


Noreen is a postpartum night doula with the SF Night Doula's.  She has over ten years experience in child care and is the source of comfort and council to many new mothers.  The SF Night doulas are a co-op of doulas who offer non-judgmental care with no placement fees.  To find out more about them see:

POSTPARTUM DOULA

ELIZABETH PORTER


Elizabeth comes to the field of doula work from the role of mothering. Having spent the past 25 years raising her own 7 children, she is acutely aware of the need for compassionate, non-judgmental and joyful parent-led approaches after the birth of the new baby.  Elizabeth's care emphasises the benefits of attachment parenting through modeling positive co-sleeping arrrangements, sling use and sensitive responding.  Elizabeth offers guidance and education in newborn care, sibling relationships, sleep concerns and family management.  Elizabeth helps parents facilitate a gentle family transition.

MEALS FOR MOTHERS®

MONICA BOGWAN M.A.


Monica has a masters degree in Food Studies from NYU and has worked in food and nutrition for 12 years. She prepares meals for women and children and conducts nutrition education at a domestic violence shelter in San Francisco.  She is now Sleepy Family's top cook for their Meal Delivery and Doula Service. She loves to provide families with wholesome and delicious food.
